You'll be within walking distance of the University of Baltimore, the symphony hall, the Walters Art Museum and the five-story, 140-year-old Peabody Library. A little further north is the community of Cheswolde and Roland Park Place assisted living. This neighborhood is more suburban than urban but still just 4 miles to the city center. Here, you're not far from Union Memorial Hospital, John’s Hopkins University and the Rotunda shopping center.

If want to live outside the city, try the suburb of Ellicott City. This city of 155,000 west of Baltimore recently made Money magazine’s "best places to live" for its abundance of parkland, range of housing options, and profusion of amenities. And for retired military, the amenities of Fort Meade Army Base are nearby. The assisted living community of Heartlands Senior Living Village is in the heart of Ellicott City.
